Our main target whilst doing our outreaches is to help feed children spiritually and physically while loving and showing compassion. Outreaches are conducted in lots of different locations varying from jungle, slums, schools and city’s. We look for the areas with extreme poverty and lack of support and then partner with the locals by finding a suitable area to hold the outreach.

Sometimes we reach out with a simple programme whilst other times we reach out with a small medical mission. On medical outreaches, we set up stations enabling us to remove the children’s head lice by using shampoo treatment, comb through matted hair and physically removing lice and eggs with combs and our hands. Through our time here we have noticed dental hygiene isn’t being taught and young children are living with rotten and painful teeth. Because of this huge need, we distribute tooth brushes and tooth paste and educate children and families on the correct way to brush their teeth. A lot of the time children find themselves in these situations because of lack of support, neglect and education. Hands and Feet UK aim to help with this important need.
On every outreach whether it is a medical outreach or a more simple programme, we start by dancing to action songs. We believe this is important to encourage children to keep healthy and physically fit. We have found that Filipinos love to dance and sing and therefore by starting in this way, it proves to be a great way of breaking the ice. During our time with the children, we tell a story from the Bible and share the gospel which should bring comfort and encourage them. We teach them a simple memory verse in their mother tongue and then reward those who manage to recite it by giving a small prize.
Dan and I, with the help of our brilliant volunteers, prepare healthy food at our home to take on the outreaches. The food is often a rice meal/snack which varies from chicken and egg to chocolate rice or sweet potato. When we cook we always make sure that the food is tasty, wholesome and nutritious. We also try and reach out to the children’s older siblings and parents by also providing them with food. Seeing the joy on children’s faces when they receive their food is priceless. It is an absolute privilege to be able to bless them in this way.
